Womens Handbags are Fun and Funky This Season

Even though the word, handbag, did not exist until the mid 19th century, they have been known to every culture since ancient times, evolving from the beaded bags of African priests to the haute couture totes carried on the shoulders of the glamorous women of today

The sizes and styles of womens handbags have been influenced by the changing role of women everywhere, as their primary function is to transport and protect the daily paraphernalia of life. The nature of a handbag’s contents has changed with the times. Today, necessary equipment can include: cell phones, indulgences (cigarettes, etc), cosmetics, jewelry and items for work.

Handbags stem all of the way back to ancient Egyptian times and even Biblical times. There are Hieroglyphics that picture both men and women carrying handbags. Though we can only assume they are not carrying an extra tube of lipstick, but rather weapons or food. It was, however, during the Victorian era when women’s handbags drastically changed. At that time, developments in the Enlightenment period and industrialization science and industry created a vast array of styles and fabrics, and for the very first time women could make a fashion statement by coordinating a handbag with the rest of their outfit.

Every woman should have a few handbags depending on her plans for the day (or night). Perhaps the classic beaded, sequin evening purse, which goes with any formal wear is more your bag? Or maybe the traditional black clutch with decorative stitching and silver tone trim chain that can be worn for either day or evening is more appealing. If you prefer more color, the satin black, red and purple. Maybe you just need something to carry your books or gym equipment. Consider then the canvas Kenneth Cole Eco Tote with peace sign to meet your needs.

The modern woman could not do without her handbag. How many accessories do you know that could honestly say that? (If they could speak, that is.)
